CHOMPY
After seeing my brother's struggles at the dentist I wanted to make a non-invasive way to detect cavities. I realized that due to demineralization of the outer layer teeth with cavity have a lower pH. My team and I decided to create a chew toy (similar to toys children with special needs already use) that could detect cavities for them.
I 3-D printed and designed a two part silicone mold. And went through an extensive process to make the final design. As a prototype we tried it with a pH strip pasted to the edges and used a q-tip with different pHs to see if it would work with the cavity. We hope to refine this design and use hydrogel to make the tool more integrated. I was able to collaborate with Sophia Benzari to write an SOP for how to make silicone molds for our BME innovation space.
